   About Anxiety

Anxiety disorders can cause chronic worry, agitation, obsessions, compulsions, panic, shyness or other fears.  Depression can rob you of self-esteem and hope.

An estimated 19 million adult Americans suffer from anxiety disorders, making anxiety the most commonly diagnosed psychological problem.

Most anxious people suffer more than others realize.  Often, they are depressed.  Sometimes they find that fighting anxiety and depression only seems to make these problems worse.

Anxiety and depression are highly treatable with cognitive behavioral therapy, interpersonal therapy, medications or all of these.  Cognitive-behavioral therapy  is effective in treating the thoughts and behaviors that underlie these problems.

We will communicate with your primary care physician, psychiatrist or other mental health professional to consider if medications can further help you feel your best.

Your psychologist can help you identify the underlying thoughts that fuel anxiety and guide you through increasing exposure to situations that you may now find fearful.  These methods are well-researched and proven.

You will control the pace of your therapy.  Treatment is hard work but it shouldn’t be painful or frightening.  Supporting you is our first goal.
